Implications of U.S. / Venezuela Relations
University of Texas at Austin professor Dr. Kurt Weyland joined the Council for a highly interactive conversation about the implications of U.S. and Venezuela relations. With expertise in Latin American policies and politics, Dr. Weyland's research interests focus on democratization and authoritarian rule, on social policy and policy diffusion, and on populism in Latin America and Europe. He has conducted extensive field research in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, and Venezuela.
In a robust conversation, Dr. Weyland and the Council explored key issues around the arrest and extraction of Venezuela’s president and considerations within the country and across the region. Conversation also explored implications for U.S. bilateral relations in the Caribbean, North America, Europe and Asia. We expect Dr. Weyland to join the Council again to continue the conversation as developments continue to unfold.
